Worst Interview I have seen

http://content.cricinfo.com/wac/content/story/207301.html

Worst cricketer interview I have ever seen on cricket.org... do they read before they publish this crap? I am sure the author is on crack or something.... I wrote a ":@-ish" email to the editors but I am sure they didnt read it and did not care to reply (at least auto-reply)... shows how much they care about their "valued" readers. The only thing good about Cricinfo is their coverage - they go places. Otherwise the quality of the articles, the website itself, the (not so) live scores really suck. You would know if you had tried to access a newly uploaded popular article, specially using the 'us.cricinfo.com' domain. I always had to change it to 'uk' or 'pak' mirrors. Also the live scores are as alive as their grandparents.

Look at the following question:

Are u religious?

Now what type of question is this to ask in a cricket interview???

Have you got over the duck on your ODI debut [in the ICC Champions Trophy, 2004, against West Indies]?

So what is he trying to do here? Embarass the chap?

How much of a part did mohalla cricket play in your game?

Ok this might be a valid question but still I think its pretty stupid. "It gave me a chance to check out your [censored] daughter every evening"

Has your last name been a topic of jokes?

This is the worst one. Doesn't the freakin' moron know that it is a very respectable surname in all of Punjab (Indian side too)?? We can make his surname mean really bad things in our language :@.... wanna try??

Youngsters like Michael Clarke and Kevin Pietersen have straightaway hit the big time in their first season. What do you think as a rookie yourself?

Again! Now what is Butt supposed to say here? Be humbled etc?

You saw Clarke during the series in Australia. What did you think of him?

Now who the heck is Butt to comment on other players in his interview? He is not a legend (a la Wasim Akram/Gavaskar etc) to ask comments from... he is a young man out to make a name for himself.

You said about your dismissal in the first innings of the Mohali Test that “your feet got stuck in the toilet”. What did that mean?

This shows how much he knows about the cricket lingo and press reporting. Go find out for yourself moron. I think this is another "cheeky" comment to embarass him rather than a valid question.

Any mistakes you’ve made?

"Yeah! This interview with you idiot!"

PS.
Language inappropriate for younger readers is filtered out from this message.

India Tour '05: Commentators, Umpires and Crowds...

... all equally pathetic. I know this has been beaten a lot elsewhere so I will not elaborate on this.

But it was surprising to read this article commending Indian crowds! Also congratulating Dravid on his little speech at the presentation ceremony.. i would say these are words from a luser :P .... well at least they did something right ....

Also the author says Dravid is the next captain? I dont think so.... he is not favored as a captain by many in the Indian camp I am sure.... On a related note look who is supporting Saurav Ganguly!

Pakistan: A one-man team?

There have been moments in Pakistan cricket when it looked like it was playing as a team and a well-knit unit. The World Cup in 1992 was one prime example where everybody chipped in with his part, even in the presence of mega-stars like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram and Mushtaq Ahmed around whom the team played under the awsome leadership of Imran Khan. Whenever Pakistan does that the results always testify. The last two tours of India were more examples of the same.

But unfortunately this has been too few and far between and hence the lack of such consistent performances.

Thinking of that brings me to a point I was wondering about after reading this article on cricket.org which said that Pakistan did play as a one-man team on the recent Indian tour and everyone chipped in. True as it may be, but if you look closely at the history/team composition of Pakistani team, we've always had these *big* stars in our team and the team expected them to pull off miracles out of their hats any day. This might have been rare in the beginning but after a decade or two we have been consistently producing mega-stars, who are so charismatic in their own ways that they can turn the match around single-handedly. Javed Miandad, Asif Iqbal, Zaheer Abbas, Imran Khan, Saeed Anwar, Salim Malik, 2 Ws, Shoaib Akhtar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, occasionally Ijaz/Afridi etc., to name a few, were solo match-winners. This might have induced a (negative) dependency on these pivotal players and hence the inconsistency we have been seeing all these years (in case they dont fire). This might have have led to complacency and lack of vision/realisation of the importance/responsibilty of each member in the team.

On the other hand, New Zealand have never had too many mega-stars in their team (except Martin Crowe, Morrison, Chris Cairns etc.), so in order for them to induce a victory everybody has to play their part. So they always look like a much-better-knit unit (even if they dont have the kind of success rate to boast of). Similarly Sri Lanka although they have had their share of stars in the shape of DeSilva, Ranatunga, Murlitharan, Jayasuria, Vaas etc. but their core approach to the game defies dependence on a single player even when they had a house-full of stars.

Blessing in (no) disguise for India

I am sure more ppl are happy than sad at Ganguly's ban for 6 matches. Also Pakistani fans must be more heart-broken. But it was ridiculous really. If you see the match you can clearly see that there is absolutely no urgency shown by the indians in the field even after they were into overtime. The mid-field conferences were there more often, the bowlers (look at Zak) took ages to get to their mark and spinners took a lifetime setting their fields before every delivery. This type of irresponsible (if not worse) attitude should be punished...
